Champions league Overtime Questions & Answers

We are receiving lots of queries in relation to what officers can claim in relation to the Champions league and I am hoping that what I have put together is helpful to you.

Please note that the Champions league is not a Special Duty but a Force event.

Advance of Hours

If the Force requires officers to start at 5am please remember the Force can only use this regulation when the officer has completed a tour of duty the previous day. Information on this can be found in your federation diary. This applies to both part time and full time officers.

An advance of hours occurs when your tour of duty has been brought forward onto a day on which you’ve already completed a tour of duty.

For example, if you were required to report for duty at 05:00 having worked 07:00 to 16:00hrs the previous day, that would be an advance of hours and not a recall to duty.

You can only claim overtime for an advance of hours if you have not been given the appropriate notice as defined in Police regs as 8hrs prior notice to the start of the new tour of duty.

For example, In the above scenario, if you were told of the requirement to report to duty at 5am prior to 21:00 hrs the night before (8hrs notice), you cannot claim any overtime and your tour of duty starts as normal at 5am. Overtime at time and a third would then apply if officers worked hours above their normal duration.

If you are told of the requirement to report to duty at 05:00hrs after 21:00hrs, you are entitled to claim overtime at time and a third for the hours between 05:00 and the start of your rostered tour of duty on that day. However, unlike normal overtime, your tour of duty also actually starts at 05:00hrs and, after completing your normal hours, you can then claim overtime again at time and a third.

For example. On Monday you work 07:00 to 16:00 and go home. Your tour of duty for the Tuesday is 10:00 to 19:00hrs. At 21:30hrs on Monday night, you are told to report for duty at 05:00hrs on Tuesday morning (less than 8hrs notice). You should then claim from 05:00hrs to 10:00 as overtime at time and a third. You work your normal say 9hr tour of duty from 05:00 which gives an end of duty time of 14:00hrs. If you work later than 14:00hrs, you again claim overtime at time and a third from 14:00hrs to end of your duty.

Rest Days

If officers were a rest day for a 5am start in the above scenario then the Force must ensure that 15 days clear notice is given to officers (17days from cancellation to requirement) otherwise they will be entitled to claim 4 hrs at time and a half for the hours between 5am to 7am (If you are a 2x2x2 worker) or 5am to 6am (If you are an 8hr worker). If you have received more than 15 days’ notice you will be entitled to claim a RD for the hours worked between 5am to 7am or 5am to 6am. Overtime at time and a third would then apply if officers worked hours above their normal duration and not time and a half Also, you do not lose the half hour as this is a pre-planned tour of duty.

For example, a 2x2x2 officer would be rostered for a 9hr tour of duty for a rest day that has been cancelled with more than 15 clear days’ notice, therefore if an officer worked 12hrs in this scenario they would be entitled to 3hrs overtime at time and a third. The half hour would not be deducted as this is a pre-planned tour of duty.

f you work directly from a tour of duty into your rest day, you are entitled to the following:

For example, if officers do not finish until 8am who work a 2x2x2 pattern they will be entitled to claim time and a half at incremental 15 mins up to the 1st hour thereafter a min of 4hrs at time and a half. You cannot claim travelling time in these circumstances

If officers do not finish until 8am who work a 10hr pattern they will be entitled to claim time and a half at incremental 15 mins up to the first 2hrs thereafter a min of 4hrs at time and a half. You cannot claim travelling time in these circumstances

If officers do not finish until 8am who work a 12hr pattern they will be entitled to claim time and a half at incremental 15 mins up to the first 2hrs thereafter a min of 4hrs at time and a half. You cannot claim travelling time in these circumstances

Part Time Officers

Rest Days or Free Days

If officers were a rest day or free day for a 5am start in the above scenario then the Force must ensure that 15 days clear notice is given to officers (17days from cancellation to requirement) otherwise they will be entitled to claim 4 hrs at time and a half for the hours between 5am to 7am (If you are a 2x2x2 worker) or 5am to 6am (If you are an 8hr worker). If you have received more than 15 days’ notice you will be entitled to claim a RD or a FD for the hours worked between 5am to 7am or 5am to 6am.

If a part timer is required to work above their normal duration any hours worked up to 40hrs per working week will be paid at plain time and you do not lose the half hour as these are additional hours that have been worked. Anything over 40hrs in that week will be paid at time and a third and you do not lose the half hour as this is a pre-planned tour of duty.
