Summer magazine out now

The new chair of South Wales Police Federation says he is ‘incredibly proud’ to take up the role.

Phil Walker has given his first full length interview to Federation Focus, the branch’s magazine, in which he talks about his excitement for what’s ahead.
“I was thrilled to become chair and it is a huge privilege for me,” he says.

Phil pays tribute to South Wales PCs Luke Francis and James Ruijs, who were among the officers recognised at this year’s national Police Bravery Awards.

There’s a powerful feature with Sergeant Ali Robinson, who tells how she has helped launch a Baby Loss Peer Support Group after she experienced a miscarriage while at work.

Federation member PC Mike Reid talks about how he remains determined and passionate about his policing career after being seriously assaulted on the job earlier in the year.

The magazine focuses on some of the issues affecting members including a statement by the Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW) on the pensions trap and reaction from branch chair Phil to plans set out in Labour’s election manifesto to recruit thousands of police officers, PCSOs and Specials and put 13,000 extra neighbourhood police and PCSOs on the beat.

Phil welcomes the 4.75 per cent pay uplift for officers, but says there is still much more to do.

And there’s a feature with branch secretary Mike George exploring his 27 years of service, his Federation roles and the family member following in his policing footsteps.
