The South Wales Police Federation is marking Response Policing Week with a series of prize draws to boost morale and support team wellbeing.
Response officers, often the first on scene at incidents, play a critical role in protecting the public – frequently dealing with high-pressure and unpredictable situations.
And branch chair Phil Walker says the week is an opportunity to highlight the essential work carried out daily by those on the frontline.
Vouchers
As part of the initiative, every Basic Command Unit (BCU) will be entered into a draw to win one of three Amazon vouchers:
- £100
- £75
- £50
Phil said: “Response officers are the ones who attend incidents first, often in challenging and fast-moving circumstances.
“They show professionalism, courage and compassion every single day, and Response Policing Week is about making sure that commitment is recognised.”
Phil also acknowledged the increasing pressures faced by response teams.
“Demand on response policing continues to grow, and officers are making critical decisions under pressure on a daily basis,” he continued, adding: “It’s important that we take the time to highlight that work and remind officers that their efforts are valued.”
Throughout Response Policing Week, Federation representatives will also be travelling across South Wales, visiting as many response teams as possible on duty. These visits will give officers an opportunity to speak directly with Federation reps, raise any issues, and engage in open conversation about life on the frontline.
Simple gesture
As part of the visits, the Federation will also be bringing along sweet treats for members on shift as a simple gesture of appreciation, with the aim of making visible its support for officers working in often demanding conditions.
“At South Wales Police Federation, we are committed to supporting our members in a variety of ways – whether that’s backing wellbeing initiatives, supporting teams and individuals, or investing in activities that recognise the work officers do. This is just one of many ways we aim to give something back,” he said.
“This week, it’s about recognition. We want officers to know that what they do matters, both to the Federation and to the communities they serve.”
Winners of the prize draws will be announced later this month.
