Regulations
Branch members have full access to the Police Federation of England and Wales’ (PFEW) Quick Reference Guide, which summarises the Police Regulations governing and protecting officers across the country.
Police Regulations are the main set of terms and conditions set out in Parliament to help maintain a level of professionalism throughout the force, in turn continuing public trust and upholding the law.
A clear understanding of these regulations can be found in one compact, digestible document through the Quick Reference Guide – typically updated either once a year or when significant developments emerge. Nevertheless, the guide cannot be considered an exhaustive substitute to the full regulations, nor a source of legal advice.
The Quick Reference Guide is ideal for when members, supervisors and senior leaders need to gain clarity on a regulation, bringing the answers to virtually every query together in one place. If you do have a specific question or concern which you feel isn’t covered in the guide, however, please contact a Federation representative in the first instance.
The PFEW policy team has produced the current version of the guide in line with the overall Police Regulations 2003, as well as the Police (Conduct) Regulations 2020, Police (Complaints and Misconduct) Regulations 2020 and Police (Performance) Regulations 2020.
Federation members can view the Quick Reference Guide below.
