Don’t miss the autumn edition of Federation Focus

November 5, 2026

The latest edition of Federation Focus, the magazine of South Wales Police Federation, is out now.

The autumn 2026 edition includes reflections from branch chair Phil Walker on the ‘vitally important’ National Police Memorial Day.

Phil joined thousands of guests including police leaders, politicians, and families of fallen officers to remember and pay tribute to those who have died in the line of duty.

The magazine also includes a moving feature on this year’s Care of Police Survivors Service of Remembrance.

Arrest figures

Joanne Woodward, the sister of Sergeant Mark Woodward, who died in 2002, shared the story of the man behind the uniform at the service.

Elsewhere in the magazine, branch chair Phil challenges media reports on arrest figures and claims that officers are becoming detached from frontline policing.

Phil argues the reports fail to recognise the complexity of modern policing and the many responsibilities officers carry beyond making arrests.

Find out how South Wales Police’s OK9 wellbeing dogs are helping colleagues talk about stress and trauma, and how staff member Charlotte Rayner is using her own experience of baby loss to support others in the Force.

Hear about the ‘exceptional’ Specials who completed more than 2,000 hours of duty during the summer.

Ellen and Richie Sellek, two of the latest retiring officers to secure their special commemorative slate through the South Wales Group Insurance Scheme (GIS), reflect on their shared lives and career.

The edition also looks at efforts to encourage more women into Federation representative roles.

Find out about the Force’s historic halberdiers, who are keeping a centuries-old policing tradition alive.

Ticket scheme

And hear about Detective Constable Judith McNamara’s return to competitive taekwondo as she sets her sights on international competitions thanks to support from the GIS.

Meet PC Nathaniel Harries, who is following in the footsteps of his father retired PC Steve ‘Chopper’ Harries and building his own career.

And there are details of the Federation’s football ticket scheme, which gives members a chance to watch Cardiff City and Swansea City in Championship action.

It’s all in the latest edition of Federation Focus out now.
