Group Insurance Scheme: price updates confirmed

April 7, 2026

South Wales Police Federation can confirm updated prices for the 2026/2027 subscription year of the branch’s Group Insurance Scheme (GIS).

As of 1 March 2026, serving members opted into the scheme will now pay £35.50 per month and can extend cover to a spouse for a monthly £13.50.

Meanwhile, the subscription price for retired members under 70 is now a monthly £43.05 – and £9.70 per month for spouses – with retirees between the ages of 70 and 79 paying £32.50 per month.

Automatic deductions from salaries and pensions will continue as the standard method of payment, and newly joined South Wales Police officers are still able to opt in free of charge for the first 52 weeks of their service.

The GIS is open to all branch members and comes with a host of worthwhile benefits for you and your loved ones, including life insurance, sick pay insurance, legal assistance, and mental and emotional counselling.

It now also boasts enhanced travel cover around vehicle collision damage, medical expenses and health declarations abroad.

Other improvements for 2026/2027 include access to virtual physiotherapy on the exclusive healthcare app GP24.

From 1 March 2026, the Travel and Policy Scheme booklet will only be available to download and print from the South Wales Police Federation website – where you can also find out more about GIS details, tools and perks.

You can make life as a GIS member even easier by adding your scheme pass to your phone wallet in just a few simple taps.
